The new FIFA World rankings have been released and it is great news for Wales but bad news for England.
After Wales’ heroics at Euro 2016 they have jumped into 11th place in the official rankings moving up an impressive 15 places from their last world ranking position.
But while Chris Coleman’s men will be celebrating yet another milestone, bitter rivals England will be left to lick their wounds after they fell to number 13 after their embarrassing last 16 defeat to minnows Iceland.
Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and co will no doubt delight in rubbing salt in to England’s wounds who are still recovering from their humiliating Euro 2016 campaign.
Right now the FA are searching for a new manager to replace the departed Roy Hodgson. While nobody has been officially confirmed for the job it is looking increasingly likely that current Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce will be confirmed as the England head coach shortly.
While Wales’ Euro 2016 campaign was their best ever at a major international tournament reaching the semi finals, they have ranked higher in previous FIFA rankings. Back in October 2015 they were ranked number 8.
Iceland who beat England 2-1 in the last 16 have risen to their highest ever position and are now ranked number 22.
Despite a decent Euro 2016 campaign from Northern Ireland they fell two spots in to 28th place while Republic of Ireland moved up to 31st. And Scotland who failed to make it to the Euros fell to 50th place.
The top five teams remained the same, with Argentina ranked first ahead of Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.
Euro 2016 champions Portugal and defeated finalists France have moved up 2 and 10 places respectively to sit 6th and 7th, with Spain, Brazil and Italy rounding off the top 10.
